While you weren’t looking, groups called the Free State Project and the Liberty Alliance chose New Hampshire for takeover. They decided that our state would be the easiest place to implement a “libertarian utopia.” This utopia resembles David Koch’s Libertarian Party platform of 1980. It demands the abolition of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, public schools, aid to children, the Post Office, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation and most other regulatory agencies. Their naive belief is that they can have a successful civilization without any government but military. Roads, schools, park lands, everything should be run by private corporations with no government oversight. No environmental protection. No climate action. And, again, no public education. “Parents know what their children should learn.” is a favorite mantra. Children of parents who don’t know what their children’s options could be. Parents who are addicted or ill or working three jobs so are unable to oversee their kids’ learning. Those children are out of luck.
